She wants to cut red tape for businesses, develop better transportation infrastructure, revise building codes that stand in the way of affordable housing, emphasize responsible growth, close gaps in the Las Vegas “healthcare desert,” and work with CCSD on education initiatives.

“Chinatown is a great example of how the growth of the area happened so fast, but the infrastructure, having to keep up with the pace of the growth,” Yan said.

“Now, there’s an infrastructure problem with traffic,” she said. Parking, too. Investing in transportation infrastructure will help resolve that.

“Las Vegas is the last and only metropolitan city in the Mountain West that doesn’t have a real mass public transportation system,” Yan said. She would like to see public transit built for locals, rather than putting so much focus on the tourist corridor. She said such a project would be transformative, comparable to the benefits to the valley when the beltway was built.

“We need to think long-term. How are we going to grow for the next 30 years, not just the next four years,” Yan said.
